Public Engagement Award


Dr Laura Wicks from the CMBB has been awarded the 2012 Principals Public Engagement Prize for an Early Career Researcher.

The prize recognises a researcher's abilities to reach new audiences not already engaged with research, and that can demonstrate a lasting impact on the public.

 Laura received the prize for her outreach work on the Changing Oceans Expedition, when she created and updated dailya website detailing the exciting research they were undertaking at sea.The blog was viewed over 23,000 times by people all around the world, and was featured by the BBC, Irish Times and Hebridean News, as well as a host of research institutions.

This is the second year in a row that the CMBB have been awarded a Principals Public Engagement Prize, with the Cold-Water Coral Group winning the team prize and overall prize in 2011.
